Kip Rodgers’ LPC Board Townhall Comments 8-13-24
The following is Kip Rodgers’ LPC Board Townhall Comments from 8-13-24.
"My name is Anne Rodgers Watson, aka Kip. I am an LPC-S and Certified High Performance Coach. I founded a sports psychology firm in Frisco, TX and have been in this field for 23 years. I have worked with Olympians and professional athletes, but my favorite athletes are the high school kids aiming for a college scholarship.
Where Are We Headed?
Our professional environment has significantly changed over these 23 years, and I believe headed in a horrific and evil direction.
Last week I posted a notice about The Association for Mental Health Professionals upcoming conference. In two forums where I posted this flyer, I was vilified. My character and my practice defamed, slandered, posted public assumptions were made that are not true about me and my practice. I was called transphobic, xenophobic, a bigot, disgusting, terrifying, and unsafe to work with kids and teens. There was a call to revoke my license and target me and anyone who liked the post to be blackballed for no referrals. I have the snapshots of these posts.
This was the worst display of professional decorum I have seen. These licensed therapists in my area of North Texas defiled by name and practice all based on a flyer I posted. They accused me of doing harm to my clients yet know nothing about me or who I serve.
There were 112 comments all together before I took the post down as it got too dangerous for me and the handful that "liked" the post.
Kip Rodgers’ LPC Board Townhall Comments
Our profession is coming apart from sound, rational, responsible, counseling to aiding and abetting mental illness by normalizing abnormal, protecting feelings over facts. The goal now is to affirm anything and everything. Comments in these forums such as what I experienced firsthand are unprofessional, violating ethical and professional standards of conduct.
We definitely have a competency problem among therapists. There is little respect for more traditional modalities and morality. Yet, in recent research conducted over 13 years, those who identify as liberal and have liberal ideologies report significantly more depression than their conservative counterparts.
To the LPC Board
I am asking you to pay attention to what is happening in our profession. Protect our citizens from this incompetency and ideologies. Sadly, I recently lost a potential associate who has decided not to pursue licensure after facing these DEI ideologies in her graduate program and practicum site. She could not continue given she was unwilling to lie to patients and affirm their dysfunction and dysphoria. We need more people like her and unfortunately, they are being drowned out in this ideological process.
Why is this happening? In part, due to the Cultural Awareness 3 hour requirement---this is DEI --divisive, exclusive, indoctrination courses. These entities make money teaching this. Some are sexually perverse; most continue the marginalized victimhood and reverse racism mentality. Please help stop this mental health crisis by helping us do our jobs not inhibiting us from doing our jobs.
REPEAL the Cultural Awareness 3 hour requirement. REPEAL the 50% Approved Provider Requirement.
