Our Position on Professional Competency
Executive Summary
Professional Competency is a high level of service delivery built on science and evidence-based platforms, polished with high moral and ethical standards. There is little if any room for social agendas or political ideologies in the academic preparation of our next generation of therapists.
Professional Competency
It is our position that the academic competency components have been redefined and lowered to more accurately reflect a collegiate preparation based on socialist ideology, rather than science. The courses have titles that satisfy legislative requirements for licensure but the material has been gutted and replaced with social justice indoctrination dogma. It's frequently taught by self-avowed Marxist professors in an environment that has traded the free exchange of ideas for an oppressive learning atmosphere of singular thought.
The result is that the State legislature's requirements for licensing guidelines have not kept up with the academic redefinitions, resulting in a trojan horse effect towards licensure of new candidates; they're not ready but they checked all the boxes so, "here's your license."
A vast majority of our licensees view their role in the field as advocates for social justice, dispensing a version of therapy filtered through the lens of ideology at the expense of public health.
Professional Competency is a bar raised by State legislatures, the accrediting institutions, academia, and the professional organizations. It must be anchored in a scientific foundation and expressed through evidence-based treatment protocols. It must be supported with a level of morals and ethical standards developed by people with a professional lens firmly anchored in the traditional history of practice.
Finally, it is not the purview of licensing agencies to raise the bar. See previous paragraph. Their mandated function is to implement and enforce what the State legislatures give them, license new therapists, and most importantly protect Joe Citizen from the licensees. Especially now.
